Now that that’s out of the way – the next most popular question we get about the Richmond scene is, “What’s your favorite cocktail bar?” … that’s easy; we have two favorites. And, our rehearsal dinner will most certainly be held at one of them, we just don’t know which one yet.

It should come as no surprise that Heritage is one of our favorite cocktail bars in the city. As they won Restaurant of the Year and were up for Best Cocktail Program at the 2015 Elby’s, the city seems to agree that Heritage has the right mojo. The fiancé and I love the atmosphere (intimate yet inviting with a well thought-out cocktail menu); but, most importantly, Mattias makes you feel so at home seated across from him at the bar. Triple thumbs up and all-in-all I think Heritage puts out the best drinks in town.

Now for what might be a surprise to some and under-rated by many; our other hands-down favorite cocktail bar is The Magpie. We stumbled upon this place just last weekend and fell in love. What a great space, with great people, putting out amazing food, and pouring fantastic cocktails. The cocktails exceeded our expectations and weren’t overly ‘crafty’ or ‘bougie’ (love that!). And, it doesn’t hurt that the housemade sausage is by far the best single plate of food we’ve had since setting foot in Richmond. Triple thumbs up.
